Carroll Hilman Smith
SHREVEPORT, LA- Funeral services for Carroll Hilman Smith, 91, will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday, February 18, 2013 at Rose-Neath's Southside Chapel. Officiating will be Rev. Crawford Williams. Interment will follow in Centuries Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Monday prior to the service at the funeral home.
Hilman was born on November 9, 1921 in Doyline, LA and passed away on February 14, 2013. He was a longtime resident of Shreveport, a member of Kingston Road Baptist Church, and retired from the Shreveport Fire Dept. as District Chief. He also was the oldest living firefighter. Hilman proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII.
Preceding him in death were his parents, James Oubrey and Sarah Irene Hilman Smith. He is survived by his loving wife of 72 years, Odelia Smith; sons, Carroll James Smith and wife, Linda, Wilfred Michael Smith and wife, Alice; daughter, Nancy Smith Tibbit and husband Wayne; grandchildren, Crystal Smith Lambert and husband, Eric, Darryl Smith and wife, Barbara, Paul Hilman Tibbit, and sister Dana Tibbit; great grandchildren, Piper, Rose, Layton Lambert, Jenna and Owen Smith; Fred Oursso; brother-n-law whom he loved as a son and his wife Jan; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Marcus Crews, Truman Wimberly, Darryl Smith, Tommy Carpenter, Paul Tibbit, and Eric Lambert. Honorary Pallbearers will be the active and retired members of the Shreveport Fire Dept.
