Mrs. Joan Atkins

Mrs. Joan Atkins of Lake Claiborne passed away peacefully with family by her side on Wednesday, December 5, 2012. She was preceded in death by her father, Robert A. Wilson and mother, Viola Mae Hudgins Wilson, and brother, George Carroll Wilson of Troy, TN.

Joan (pronounced JoAnn) was born Joan Wilson on February 10, 1939 in Obion County, TN and was 73 years of age. She was a devoted wife to Emmett R. Atkins for 54 years, and a resident of Homer, Louisiana at Lake Claiborne since 1973.

She is survived by her husband, Emmett R. Atkins; 3 daughters: Regina Atkins-Graham of Savannah, GA; Deborah Atkins-Brown of Woodstock, GA; and Becky Atkins-Strickler of Ruston, LA; her sister Glenda Wilson Jones of Cedar Grove TN; nine grandchildren, numerous nephews and nieces in Louisiana and Tennessee.

Memorials: In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to: Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church, 3647 Hwy 146, Homer, LA 71040. Agape Hospice in Minden, 203 Pearl St, Minden, LA 71055

The Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, December 8, 2012, at 10:am, at Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church at Lake Claiborne, followed by a Graveside Service in Athens' Salem Cemetery.

Special thanks to Home Healthcare of Arcadia, Agape Hospice in Minden, and caregiver Faye Carroll for the kind care and love shown to Mrs. Atkins in her last few months.
