John Tasker Wicks (J.T.) (92), of Shreveport, LA., passed away December 10, 2012. He was married 65 years to Naomi Wicks. He was self employed as Wicks Upholstery for 60 years and continued to accept light work into the last year of his life. He was a WW II veteran, serving in Europe during the final two years of the war. He was also an enthusiastic organic gardener as well as an avid reader. He never saw a John Wayne movie he didn't like.
Mr. Wicks was born in 1920 in Pisgah, AL to Lewis and Ida Wicks and moved to Shreveport, LA in 1948.
He is preceded in death by, his parents, Lewis Wicks and Ida Wicks, sisters, Juanita Wilkes, and Jewel Bolden, and son, Gregory Wicks.
He is survived by wife, Naomi Nance Wicks; sons, DeWayne Wicks and wife Dawn, Gary Wicks and wife Gail, and Dana Wicks; grandsons, Kirk Wicks and wife Jasmine, Scott Wicks and wife Dayna, and Thaddeus Wicks; great grandchildren Jesse Wicks, Aliya Wicks, Dyllan Wicks, and Cheyenne Wicks; and brothers Ralph Wicks, Clinton Wicks, and sister Darline Wicks.
Funeral services will be held near his birthplace at Kerby Funeral Home, Henagar, AL, Friday, December 14, 2012, at 10:00 am, with interment immediately following at Green Haven Memorial Gardens in Central, AL. There will be visitation at the funeral home, Thursday December 13, 5 - 7 p.m.
