Juanita "Nita" Byrd

Shreveport, LA - Juanita Byrd passed away on Thursday, November 22, 2012, at Pierremont Healthcare in Shreveport. Visitation will be held from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 25th, at Osborn Funeral Home. Celebration of Life services will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, November 26, 2012, in the Chapel of Osborn. A private graveside service will be held at Forest Park Cemetery-West.

Nita was born and raised in Bastrop, LA, attended Northeast Louisiana University and was employed there until moving to Shreveport. She went to work at LSUS in Shreveport and retired in 2000, with a total of 37 years with the two universities, serving in administration areas.

Nita loved crafts, and decorating which she did a lot of at Christmas time with many trees and decorations, both at work and her job and for friends. She did a lot of travel and work with the Lions Club functions with Bud before becoming a Lion and even more involved after becoming a member. She was a Charter member of the Bossier Central Lions Club and a member of the North Shreveport Lions Club when she passed away. The Lions of North Shreveport will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Nita is survived by her husband, Roy "Bud" Byrd; daughter, Terrie Kelly, of Miramar Beach, FL; son, Todd Byrd and wife, Robin; grandchildren, Catherine, Elliott and Thomas Byrd, of Haughton, LA; brother, Billy Reynolds; sisters, Margaret Stewart and Johnette Savage; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Louisiana Lions Camp, 292 L. Beauford Drive, Anacoco, LA 71403. This will be an ongoing gift that will allow handicapped and diabetic children to experience a free week at camp during the summer.
