SHREVEPORT, LA - Leonidas "Lonnie" Stephenson passed away quietly on July 13, 2012 in Shreveport, LA. He was born in Atlanta, GA on July 12, 1920 to Mildred and Leonidas Stephenson, Sr. The family moved to Shreveport later that year. Lonnie was a passionate, artistic, and charitable personality who was devoted to his wife and sons. He overcame a diagnosis of polio and the resulting lifelong physical challenges to become a business owner who traveled the world and never stopped learning from, listening to, and teaching the people around him.
Lonnie is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Joy Stephenson and two sons, Mark and his wife Mary Stephenson of Ferndale, WA and John Stephenson of Shreveport. Three grandchildren survive "Papaw," Kyle and wife, Crissie Stephenson of Plano, TX, Meagan Stephenson of Orlando, FL, and Scott Stephenson of Ferndale, WA, as well as a beautiful great-granddaughter, Scarlett Stephenson. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Charlotte Ivy.
The family of Mr. Stephenson would like to express gratitude to Dr. Kevin Marler, Dr. Krishna Singh, Dr. Christina Colmenares, and Dr. Theresa Rinderle for compassionate care during his illness. Mr. Stephenson's family is additionally thankful to the staffs and administrations at Heritage Manor Stratmore, Promise Hospital, Christus Highland, and Lifepath Hospice for graciously enabling a peaceful transition for Mr. Stephenson.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday, July 16, 2012, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home Marshall Street.
