SHREVEPORT, LA - Funeral services for Lola Poland Burton, 96, will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 25, 2011 at Rose-Neath's Southside Chapel. Officiating will be Dr. Murry Hodge and Mr. Keith Brossette, her Sunday School Teacher. Interment will follow in Forest Park St. Vincent. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 24, 2011 at the funeral home.
Lola was born on November 21, 1914 in Fryeburg, LA to James and Althius Poland. She passed away on May 23, 2011 in Shreveport.
Lola was preceded in death by her parents; siblings; husband, Guy Burton and daughter, Mary DeMoss. Left to cherish her memory are her sons, James Burton and wife, Louise, and Jim Burton and wife, Amelia; daughters, Dorothy Martin and Billie Pool; 14 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren and 28 great-great-grandchildren.
Serving as pallbearers will be her grandsons.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to the James Burton Foundation (318) 424-5000.

Many years ago, I saw this on a church sign: "God gave us memory so that we might have roses in December." I only saw Mrs. Burton a few times at James' festival, but I could see the love between a mother and her son. That's precious. I can only imagine the joy she felt when she saw Jesus face. My prayer is for God's grace to give you peace and comfort during this time.

My condolences go out to all of the Burton family. I will miss Aunt Lola as her,my grandmother Lula Boyd and I all shared the same birthday. I will miss talking to her in Novemeber each year. May God's mercy be with the family during this time

So sorry to hear of Mrs. Burton's passing. I only met her a couple of times, but she impressed me as being quite a woman. I'm sure you'll all miss her very much. Be happy for her. She's back with the man she loves and in the eternal presence of God.

We are so sorry to hear of your loss. My Aunt Mildred and I were so glad to see James at Willis Knighton last Thursday, but sorry that it was under trying circumstances.

Dear Burton cousins, I'm so sorry for your loss. I have so many fond memories of Aunt Lola that I will cherish for the rest of my life...from childhood when she would call my dad, Bub, to come cut the tails off her newborn puppies to her and Uncle Guy heading out to Cross Lake with the fishing polls hanging out the windows of the Cadilliac for a day of fishing. She will surely be missed by all.

James, Jim, and the rest of the family, I knew Mrs. Burton and her husband for a long time; met them when they used to come into dad's store on Midway Street. She was a warm, sweet lady and I visited with her at her house on Lindholm Street from time to time. All I can add is that she was a great person and will be missed by everyone who knew her. James and Jim, I am so, so sorry for your loss. You're in my thoughts and prayers. Rest in peace, Mrs. Burton.
