SHREVEPORT, LA- Funeral services for Lonnie Roberts, Jr., 83, will be held at 12:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at Rose-Neath's Southside Chapel. Officiating will be Dr. Larry Williams. Interment will follow in Forest Park West Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Monday, February 11, 2013 and Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. until service time.
Lonnie was born June 25, 1929 in Greenwood, TX to Lonnie and Toie Roberts. He passed away on February 8, 2013 at the Northwest Louisiana War Veterans Home in Bossier City. He was affectionately called "Pop" by family and friends. He loved his family and was an avid supporter of his grandchildren's activities. He also enjoyed gardening, fishing and watching Nascar. He proudly served our country in the U.S. Army.
Lonnie worked at The Brewster Company/WKM for 32 years before taking early retirement. Never without a job and always working, he worked at several local companies before going to work at the Distribution Center. He worked at DCI for 14 years before his health forced him to retire again.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, James Garland Roberts, Harvey Roberts and Tommy Roberts. Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 61 years, Evelyn Mitchell Roberts; daughters, Donna R. Rutch and husband, John and Renee R. Petree and husband, Mike; grandchildren, Tara Pickard and husband, Joe, John Peter Rutch, Carson Petree and wife, Kieffer, Brad Petree and fiancé, Ashley Hill and Spencer Petree; great-grandchildren, Will, Joshua, Ethan Pickard and Camille Petree; sisters, Shirley Propest and husband, Roger, Sue Holmes and husband, Marvin and Evelyn Bates and husband, Craig; sister-in-law, Ovenia Roberts; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Honoring him as pallbearers will be Carson Petree, Brad Petree, Spencer Petree, Joe Pickard, and Chris Mitchell.
The family would like to express their appreciation to all nurses and staff on Wing 2 at the Northwest Louisiana War Veterans Home for their compassion and care.
