Visitation will be on Tuesday, April 28th from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Sisters of Our Lady of Sorrows' chapel at 9894 Norris Ferry Rd., Shreveport, LA. Sr. Mary Bacchielli was born on September 8, 1916 in Canavaccio, Italy. She was professed as a Sister of Our Lady of Sorrows on July 18, 1939. She was among the first group of sisters to come to this country as missionaries. Shortly after their arrival in Moreauville, LA in 1947, they began their missionary activities.

After several years as a teacher in schools for African-American children, she was transferred to St. Mary's Residential Training School in Clarks, LA, which opened in 1954 for children with mental retardation. After completing her college degree at Our Lady of Holy Cross College in New Orleans, she returned to St. Mary's which had moved to Alexandria in 1974.

Sr. Mary "B", as she was affectionately called, worked in the Social Services Department, sending families photographs and notes about their child. As far as the children, she would go to each child and lovingly read the note or letter they had received from home. Sr. Mary "B" spent over 33 years at St. Mary's, retiring in 2001. She is survived by a niece, Luigina Bacchielli, who is in Italy.

The Sisters of Our Lady of Sorrows would like to thank those who have cared for Sr. Mary "B" in her last days especially Shirley Williams, Annie Rhodes, Pamela Marshall, Catherine Black and Earnestine Clark. Also we would like to extend a warm "thank-you" to Christus Schumpert Community Hospice for their support.

Thanks are also extended to the pallbearers who will be: Vincent Santone, Kenneth Grosz, Russell Jackson, Chris VonZynda, Phillip Liberto, and Jim Faler.

Honorary pallbearers will be the clients of OLS Community Homes of Alexandria, LA.
