SHREVEPORT, LA-Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Joe Shelton, 90, will be 3:00 P.M. Sunday, February 24, 2013, at Centuries Memorial Chapel with her son, Rev. Harrell Shelton officiating and Rev. Murry Hodge and Rev. Billy Pierce assisting. Interment will be in Centuries Memorial Park.
Mrs. Shelton was born July 12, 1922, in Greenville, TX to parents A. E. "Tad" and Annabelle (Lemons) Corbet and passed away February 21, 2013 in Bossier City, LA. She was a graduate of Fair Park High School and attended Dodd College. As a devoted member of Ford Park Baptist Church, where she was affectionately known as "Sarge", she was actively involved in all of her church's activities. She was also a member of the Women's Geological Society. All her life, she was known for her artistic talent, and late in life found a passion for painting and enjoyed her many "painting friends". Finding strength in her Christian faith, she was generous in both word and deed and was devoted to her loving family.
Mrs. Shelton was preceded in death by her husband, Murphy F. Shelton, Jr., parents, A. E. "Tad" and Annabelle Corbet, sister, Frances Craig, and step-great grandson Jaden Pierce. She is survived by her son, Rev. Harrell Shelton and wife Anne; daughter, Ruth Ann Pierce and husband Nilton; brothers, Tad Corbet and wife Priscilla, Jim Corbet and wife Gloria; four grandchildren, Aimee Anne Norcross and husband Perry, Cecilia Guerrero and husband Matt, Bo Shelton and wife Krystal, Murphy Shelton and wife Kristen; two step-grandchildren, Stacie Rivera and husband Fernando, and Scott Pierce and wife Jacki; four great grandchildren, six step great-grandchildren; four nieces, Susan Maddox, Diana Schildt, Linda Moore, Debbie Cooper; and a special cousin, Carole Pruett.
Pall Bearers will be Nilton Pierce, Bo Shelton, Murphy Shelton, Perry Norcross, Matthew Guerrero, and Billy Foster. You may share your condolences with the family at www.centuriesmemorialfh.com
The family gives a heartfelt thanks to the staff at Pilgrim Manor Nursing Home and Robyn and Debbie of Schumpert Hospice for their kind and compassionate care.
