Michael E. Vail passed into the loving arms of his Savior, Jesus Christ, on Friday, November 9, 2012 after a lengthy illness.

His life will be celebrated at funeral services on Tuesday, November 13, at Martin Baptist Church at 10:00. Visitation will be at Rockett-Nettles Funeral Home in Coushatta on Monday, November 12, from 5:00-9:00.

Officiating will be Dr. Richard Kaufman, pastor of Martin Baptist Church who will be assisted by Rev. Toby Shaw, pastor of First Community Church, Mansfield. Interment will follow at Martin Cemetery in Martin.

Michael was born on April 11, 1947 to Everett Vail and Juanita Long Vail. He served his Lord faithfully during his earthly life and, especially during the time of his illness, gave his Christian testimony in churches and to individuals numerous times. He was Chairman of Deacons for many years at Martin as well as Sunday School Director, active choir member where he sang solos and in the men's ensemble, and led in many other church responsibilities. He also sang in the Martin Gospel Band as lead singer, where he loved to sing the gospel music for which he was so well known.

He was a veteran of the United States Army from 1966-1968 and proud to show his love of country. He retired from the Louisiana Department of Transportation and was currently employed by the Michael Baker Corp/LPA Group Inc. in Baton Rouge.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his grandparents, Jacques and Viola Vail and Zuma and Ruby Long. He is survived by the family he loved: wife Peggy Gray Vail of 33 years; daughter Kimberly Guice and husband Kevin and grandchildren Emma and Hunter Guice ; sister Shelia and husband Pete Prophit of Baton Rouge; sister Karen and husband Lamar Thomas of Robeline; mother-in-law O'Neal Gray of Green Meadow Haven in Coushatta; sister- in- law Linda and husband Wayne Scott of Benton; sister-in-law Jean Lester of Martin, and numerous loving nieces and nephews as well as a host of friends.

All in his family were real treasures to him and they will remember him as a Godly man who loved the Lord, his wife, his children, other family members and friends. God was gracious to Michael in granting to him special ability to work with people, and he touched the lives of those who met and knew him.

Active pall bearers will be: Tommy Ross, Danny Snead, Paul Hillman, Jerry Lane Hester, Glenn Anderson, Chris Robinette, Andy Long, and Mike Jeter. Honorary pall bearers will be: Ivy B. Dupree, Gerald Robinette, and Jerry Leonard.

Special thanks are given to Dr. Gerald Milletello and staff with the Hematological/Oncology Clinic in Baton Rouge; Dr. Scott Bonial and staff with Christus Schumpert Cancer Treatment Center in Shreveport and the Shreveport Grace Home.
