SHREVEPORT, LA- Morris M. Balistrella, 85, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 2, 2007. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. on Friday, May 4th at Osborn Funeral Home followed by a vigil service at 7 p.m. in the Osborn Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 5, 2007 at Saint Joseph Catholic Church with Rev. Richard J. Lombard and Rev. Charles Glorioso officiating. Graveside services will follow at Forest Park Cemetery.
Mr. Balistrella was born December 27, 1921 in DeRidder, LA. He entered the Army Air Force at Randolf Field in 1942. After serving his country he earned a bachelor degree from Loyola University in New Orleans. He then obtained a graduate degree in Pharmacy from the University of Houston. He began practicing in Shreveport and spent most of his career at Williams P & S Pharmacy.
Morris married Josephine Maranto on June 30, 1954. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He led his family with a kind and loving spirit.
Morris was a member of Saint Joseph Catholic Church, the Broadmoor 3407 Knights of Columbus and the Immaculate Conception of Bossier.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Vincenza Balistrella; sisters, Katie Balistrella and Jennie Glorioso; brother, Dr. Michael Balistrella; and grandson, Joe Wayne Balistrella. Survivors include wife, Josephine Balistrella; children, Ginger Plauche and husband, Wade, of Brandon, MS, Sam Balistrella and wife, Linda, and Joe Balistrella and wife, Mary, all of Shreveport; grandchildren, Amanda Balistrella, Amy Balistrella and Andrew Plauche; and sister-in-law, Rosa Fertitta.
The pallbearers will be Vincent Glorioso, Sam Cimino, Thomas Avallone, Jason Person, Eric Person, Jim Carlton, Dave Troudt and John Kappen.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Alan J. Borne and Christus Schumpert Community Hospice, especially Ellen and Debbie for their compassionate care and concern during his illness. Special thanks also to Rosie Avallone and Carolyn Person for all their love and support. OSBORNFUNERALHOME.NET
