Longview, TX - Myrtle Laura Corbett Jouett, 99, died Tuesday, November 20, 2012, in Longview, Texas. She was born April 9, 1913, in Bayou Chicot, Louisiana to Laura Lacalle and Claude Milton Corbett. She lived in Shreveport until 1997 when she moved to Longview. She attended Normal University in Natchitoches and received a teacher's certificate.
Myrtle married Francis Marion Jouett on October 5, 1933. He preceded her in death in 1984.
Myrtle was a skilled seamstress, china painter, and maker of small gem stone trees. She loved reading, researching genealogy, investing in the stock market, and working crossword puzzles. While in Shreveport she was a member of Kings Highway Christian Church, then First United Methodist Church in Longview.
Survivors include her brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Claude M. Corbett, Jr. (Corky and Isabelle) of Shreveport; children and their spouses: Frances and Millard Allen of St. Simons Island, GA; Jerry and Jerre Jouett of Longview, TX; Lyn and Bill Woods of Spring City, TN; grandchildren: Beth Kirkman of Plano, TX; Janet Johnston of McKinney, TX; Amy Cooke (Mrs. Greg) of Northbrook, IL; Susan Shipp (Mrs. David) of Fair Oaks Ranch, TX; Jeff Jouett (Tracy) of Cypress, TX; Jason Jouett (Ann Catherine) of Fayetteville, AR; 18 great-grandchildren; and numerous nephews and nieces.
The family extends thanks to the staff of the Harbor at Buckner Westminster Place, to LifeCare Hospice, and to Dr. Rick Earnest.
A celebration of Myrtle's life will be at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, November 24, with visitation preceding at 1:00 p.m. at Osborn Funeral Home, 3631 Southern Ave., Shreveport. Interment will follow at Forest Park Cemetery.
