SHREVEPORT, LA - Norma Ellen Stovall Morgan, 88, died May 23, 2012 at the Grace Home in Shreveport, LA. Mrs. Morgan was born July 19, 1923 in Sikes, LA to Isabella Richardson Stovall and Dr. George Edgar Stovall, M.D. She attended grade school in Sikes and after the death of her father, she moved with her mother, brother, and sister to Baton Rouge, LA where she graduated from Baton Rouge High School. She attended LSU where she was a member of Delta Zeta Sorority and Delta Gamma Delta honorary sorority. Her first job was at the Louisiana State Capitol working for the Department of Public Works. She married Jesse Oron Morgan, Jr. on December 26, 1943 in Baton Rouge. After the war, she and Jesse moved to New Orleans, LA while he attended Architecture School at Tulane. Norma worked as an architectural secretary for Freret & Wolf Architects in New Orleans. After his graduation in 1949, Norma and Jesse moved to Shreveport, LA. Norma went to work for Sam Weiner as his secretary. In 1963, Norma and Jesse moved to Lufkin, TX for two years before returning to Shreveport in 1965. Norma also worked for Caddo Parish School Board at the old Line Avenue School Testing Hearing. Norma was quite a golfer. She won many trophies and awards. After 8 years of touring the local links, Norma won the 1959 East Ridge Country Club Annual Women's Championship that she won again in 1960 and 1962. In 1961, she won the Shreveport Women's Golf Association City Champions Tournament. In 1968, Norma, along with C.K. Carter, Jr., Sandra Palmer, and Frank Campisi won the Pro-Am event of the fourth annual Shreveport Kiwanis at the Palmetto Country Club. In 1970-1971, she served as Treasurer of the Louisiana Women's State Golf Association. Norma played on the East Ridge Country Club team that won the 1970 Shreveport Women's Gold Association interclub golfing completion. She played on and served as the Captain of the East Ridge Women's Golf Team that won the 1978 Shreveport Women's Golf Association Inter-club Team Match. In 1968, Norma claimed Medalist honors at East Ridge in the East Ridge Women's Golf Association Champion Tournament with a low gross of 80 placing her first in the championship flight, and she also had several Hole-in-One honors. Norma also served as vice president of the East Ridge Women's Golf Association and President of the Shreveport Senior Women's Golf Association. In 1965, while living in Texas, Norma was awarded a Special Membership in the Woman's Society of Christian Service. Norma is a long time member of the Freeman Fellowship class at Noel Memorial United Methodist Church. Through the years Norma has worked with Girl Scouts and the Parent Teacher Association at Creswell Elementary, Broadmoor Jr. High and Byrd High School.

Norma is survived by her husband of 68 years, Jesse O. Morgan, Jr. of Shreveport, LA; one daughter, Kay Huntsman and husband, Gary of Carthage, TX; two granddaughters, Katie Huntsman of Plano, TX and Amy McPhearson and husband, Josh of Grand Cane, LA; a sister, Kitty Fair and husband, John of Phenix City, AL; and numerous nieces and nephews. Norma was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Dr. John Chaille Stovall, M.D. and George William Stovall.

Funeral services will be held at Rose-Neath Marshall Street Chapel in Shreveport, LA on Tuesday, May 29, 2012, at 11:30 a.m. with a visitation preceding the service starting at 9:00 a.m. Reverend Mimi McDowell of Noel Memorial United Methodist Church will officiate, assisted by Mr. Chris Middleton. Honoring Mrs. Morgan as pallbearers will be Ken Babin, Bill Beebe, Kim Mitchell, Jerry Sutton, Shelby Taylor, and Dean Morgan.

The family would like to thank Dr. Rajan Khanna, Dr. Stuart Blum, and Dr. Robert Holladay, and the doctors, nurses, and staff of Christus Schumpert Medical Center, Christus Highland, Dubuis, The Village Healthcare at The Glen, and The Grace Home for their loving care during Norma's illness.
