O. Patrick Avinger, Jr.

Shreveport, LA-Graveside services for Onfrey Patrick Avinger, Jr. will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 19, 2011 at Forest Park Cemetery, Shreveport, Louisiana. Officiating will be Rev. Ken Irby of Broadmoor United Methodist Church. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Friday, November 18, 2011 at Osborn Funeral Home in Shreveport.

Pat was born in Minden, Louisiana on April 8, 1925. He was a graduate of Minden High School. He received his degree in accounting from Baylor University and remained an active supporter of Baylor athletics for over 70 years. During World War II he served as an NCO in the 513 Parachute Infantry Regiment, participating in the Ardennes (Bulge) and Rhineland Campaigns. He became a CPA in 1949 and retired as a partner of Heard, McElroy and Vestal accounting firm. His memberships in the Society of Louisiana CPAS and the American Institute of CPAS spanned over 50 years. He was a long time member of The Shreveport Club and a founding member of East Ridge Country Club. He was a member of Broadmoor Methodist Church in Shreveport. In his younger years, he was very active in professional and civic organizations.

He was preceded in death by his parents O. P. Avinger, Sr. and Mary Wallace Avinger. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Peggye Spencer Avinger; two daughters, Mary Lou Pierson and her husband, Donald A. Pierson of Longview, TX, Nancy Lynn Reeves of Shreveport; son, Patrick S. Avinger, Sr. and his wife, Denise of Ovilla, TX; five grandchildren, Julie Cummings and Crandell of Keithville, Jennifer Pierson of Dallas,TX, Jeffrey Pierson and Meg of Longview, TX, Patrick S. Avinger, Jr. of Ovilla,TX, and Katie Avinger of Ovilla, TX; and six great grandchildren.

Honorary pallbearers will be Jeffrey Pierson, Patrick S. Avinger, Jr., Crandell Cummings, Donald Pierson, Fritz Spencer, III, Blair Spencer, Edward J. Knipper, Tim B. Nielsen, A.G. Hammett III, Spencer E. Bernard, John W. Dean, Tyler G. Hegenwald, James E. Carlton, William Jarratt, Philip E. Anderson, J.Peter Gaffney, H.Q. Gahagan and C. Cody White.
