Shreveport, LA - Orlan Oscar Ross, 74, departed this earth on Sunday, May 6, 2012. Funeral services celebrating his life will be held at 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 9, 2012, at Osborn Funeral Home. The family will receive visitors from 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 9, until service time at Osborn Funeral Home. Officiating will be Dr. Murry Hodge of Summer Grove Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Centuries Memorial Park with full Military rites.
Oscar was born on November 1, 1937 in Many, LA, and a resident of Shreveport for 56 years. He was a member of Summer Grove Baptist Church. His interests included his family, spoiling his grandchildren and square dancing with the Activ-8-Ers and Southern Swingers.
Oscar proudly served his country for 27 years as a SSG in the National Guard; he retired as manager of Rose-Neath Funeral Homes then managed numerous funeral homes in northwest Louisiana. Oscar was also a retired real estate agent. Those who knew and loved him will remember that "great big smile and bellowing laugh" that could inspire everyone around him. He warmly welcomed friends and neighbors into his home and often times presented them with little bags of peanuts (which he loved) on their departure. Oscar always put God first, others second and himself last.
Mr. Ross is survived by his wife of 22 years, Vonda Dunlap Ross; his parents, Willie Mae and Allen Monroe Ross; one son, William Ross; three step children; three sisters, Judy Bass, Janet Miller and husband, Dale, Francis Speights and husband, Sid; seven grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Michael Thompson, Dwayne Dunlap, Mark Yawn, Dale Miller, Sid Speights and Bruce Speights.
The family would like to thank nurses, Zecaria Henderson and Jackie Mosley; CNAs, Myrion and Kathy all of Live Oaks.
