Pastor Ford Franklin, Sr.

SHREVEPORT - Ford Franklin, Sr., 92, went home to be with the Lord on December 24, 2012, at his home in Shreveport, Louisiana. He was born January 3, 1920, in Ringgold, Louisiana, the second son of Alec and Candie Franklin. He was educated in the Caddo Parish Public Schools and was called to the ministry in 1959; he was ordained in 1967. Rev. Franklin pastored 6 churches. He was employed by Shreveport Water Works 27 years until his retirement in 1982. He also worked for Wal-Mart Stores and for various construction companies.

He served in various capacities at his home church, St. Augustine Baptist Church, including a Sunday School teacher, deacon, Church Secretary, and Sunday School Superintendent. He received a Bachelor of Theology Degree from Shreveport Bible College; a Bachelor of Theology Degree and a Master of Theology Degree from United Theological Seminary. He was a member of the Texas/Louisiana Ministers' Conference and served as President of the Association for 9 years. Rev. Franklin was a member of the Martin Luther King Community Center and also served as President of the Center for several years. He was a member, chaplain, and honorary past-Master of the Masonic Lodge. He was also active in various other community activities, events, and organizations.

He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Brenda; his mother-in-law, Mrs. Bernice Henderson; three sisters-in-law (Fannie Mitchell, Deloris Coleman, Ann Wade); four brothers-in-law (Minister Jerry Henderson, David Coleman, James Henderson, Webb Henderson, Jr.); two sons—Ford (Angie) Jr. of Lawton, Oklahoma, and John (Sandra) of Jacksonville, Florida; four daughters—Hattie of Shreveport, Roberta (Eugene) Jolly of Topeka, Kansas, Donna of Shreveport, and Kathy of Phoenix, Arizona; eleven grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends.

Family hour will be on Friday, 6:30 - 7:30 p.m.; funeral services, Saturday, December 29, 2012, 11:00 a.m.; both at Winnfield Funeral Home, 3701 Hollywood Ave. Interment will be in Lincoln Memorial Park Cemetery.
