SHREVEPORT, LA - Mrs. Teofila (Taffy) Acosta passed away Sunday, July 15, 2007 after a brief illness. Visitation will be held at Osborn Funeral Home Tuesday, July 17 from 5-8 p.m. and Rosary at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass will begin at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, July 18th at the Cathedral of St. John Berchmans. Officiating will be Father Joseph Ampatt. Con-celebrating will be Monsignor Carson LaCaze and Father Peter Mangum. Interment will follow at Forest Park Cemetery. Mrs. Acosta was a native of San Antonio, Texas and a resident of Shreveport, Louisiana for 42 years. She was an active member of the Cathedral of St. John Berchmans where she received the Diocesan Medal of Honor. Mrs. Acosta faithfully served in St. John's Altar Society, St. Raphael's Guild, St. John's Circle 12 Queens' Workers, Minister of Holy Communion, Outreach Group and Bereavement Committee, as well as the Nursing Home Visitation. Mrs. Acosta was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel; mother Matilda Menchaca; and precious grandson Daniel B. Acosta, II. She is survived by devoted sons: Louis and Marty; Daniel B. Acosta, wife, Sue, grandsons, Christopher and Jonathan; Dr. Joseph Acosta, wife, Jill, grandchildren, Jody, Ellie, Katie and Joshua; David Acosta, wife, Mary Anne, grandsons, Sam, James, Alex and David; Mary A. Gilley, husband, Bruce, grandsons, Shawn, Bobby and Matthew; Margaret Troquille, husband, Charles, grandsons, Michael and Joshua. Mrs. Acosta has 3 great-grandchildren, Robbie, Trace and Andrew. Mrs. Acosta is also survived by two brothers, Robert Menchaca and wife, Magdalena and Charles Menchaca. Pallbearers will be Michael Halphen, Christopher Acosta, Joshua Halphen, Jonathan Acosta, Shawn Gilley, Bobby Gilley, Jody Acosta, and Matthew Gilley, all grandsons. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Restoration Fund of the Cathedral of St. John Berchmans in Mrs. Teofila (Taffy) Acosta's name. The family would like to express its sincere appreciation to all those who loved, supported and cherished our precious mother and grandmother.
