Tim is the reason my kids still have a mother today and I will forever owe the Prunty family my life literally. Tim was one of the best people that i knew even though I had only known him for a short time. He became my friend and I will never forget him -- I miss seeing him and it is hard knowing he will not be walking thru that door every night now but I know that I have a GUARDIAN ANGEL up in heaven watching over me always.

We thought that it must be the day for memorizing a great people or special event when we saw the half –staff flags after came back from TX last week. Daniel memorized the news from TV that a police officer was shot on his duty. We are so sorry to know that was about Tim. We know you, an outstanding police officer from your brother Mark and sister Nancy.

Tim was taken way too soon and life will never be the same without him.

I can't imagine not hearing his voice and laugh or seeing his face ever again. It is heartbreaking to know I'll never hear one of his many stories being told in the way only he could tell it. And it is sad that I'll never to watch him demonstrate some cool new move he learned in class.

But I am so grateful for the years of memories that I and my family have to hold onto. Tim's zest for life and devotion to honor didn't just occur in his line of work but in his everyday life.

It is comforting to know that we will see him again in Heaven and to know that he is watching over us.

My prayers are with his family, friends and fellow officers that are feeling the devastation of his departure. I know that God will provide comfort and peace.

October 27, 2010

I did not know Officer Tim Prunty but I read every entry in the Guest Book. As I was shedding tears I could tell from the entries from friends and family that he was truly a hero and a good man. I am thankful for giving and caring people like Tim who dedicate their lives to serve others. He knew the personal risks that his job entailed, but he had courage and motivation to seek to change the world for the better, anyways.
Personally, I was deeply impressed by Tim's confidence, determination, and love of life. He was always seeking to better himself so that he could do his best: whether learning Spanish, martial arts, or whatever he put his mind to. Because of this, he was truly an inspiration to all he knew. It is such a shame that his life was taken from him. Our prayers will go out to his family.

My thoughts and prayers are with Sgt. Prunty's family, work family, and friends. I pray that God will comfort them during this tragic time. Sgt. Prunty was a former co-worker of my dad and a great friend. My dad said Sgt. Prunty always made him laugh. This has been on my mind since my dad told me about it. Thank you Sgt. Prunty for everything you did and for being a great friend to my dad. I wrote this poem in loving memory of Sgt. Tim Prunty:
"Gone But Will Never Be Forgotten"
You put your life on the line each & everyday,
You patrol the streets to keep us safe,
You are cussed at, yelled at, and talked bad about,
Yet you still are so caring and would give anyone the shirt off your back,
You were taken by a very selfish act and for that I do not understand,
You are my hero, although you are gone now, you will never be forgotten.

I have had the privilege of knowing Tim and his family for the past 43+ years. He and Matt were a treat to watch growing up and to see both of them develop into fine, decent men. Both Tim and Matt worked for me prior to my retirement from SPD and i have always felt like an older brother and part of their family. I will miss his quick wit, easy smile and sense of humor. I get peace knowing he is "watching" those left to remember him. Love you, Tim.

There are not enough words to describe Tim Prunty, as a man, a police officer, or as a friend. Tim was one of the finest, most dedicated officers I ever had the privilege of serving with at SPD. I feel priviledged to have known him, worked closely with him, and been able to call him my friend. The only thing more important to him than his calling was his family. My most sincere sympathy to Matt and all the Prunty family . Gary Foster, SPD (retired)

I am truly distraught over the loss of one of Shreveports dedicated and heroic officers. The City has suffered a tremendous loss. My thoughts and prayers are with his family, the Shreveport Police Dept. and the entire City of Shreveport. As chairman of the Shreveport Public Safety Committee and Chairman of the City Council I have had the opportunity to appreciate the many aspects of our officers and the departments operations- which are extensive and the general public cannot ever understand all that our Police actually do.
Today, I say "Thank You" for your your service and for making Shreveport a better place to live.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Somebody killed a police officer today
and a part of America died.
A piece of our country he swore to protect
will be buried with him at his side.
Somebody killed a police officer today
it happened in your town and mine.
While we slept in comfort behind our locked doors
a cop put his life on the line.
Now his ghost has the beat
on a dark city street
and he stands at each rookie's side.
A cop answered the call
of himself gave his all
and a part of America died.

I was acquainted with Tim through our work. I remember that he was studying Spanish at one time and I admired him for wanting to better communicate with everyone. He always had little tidbits of information he liked to share. He told me one time that one of the places that has the most germs is the keyboard. The things that stick with us about folks! He also told me that people can see through the cracks in the window blinds. He taught awareness! It saddens me to know that Tim is gone and his death was so unnecessary and so undeserving! May the friends and family find comfort in God's Holy Word.

The Final Salute

“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.

This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render toTimothy Clark “Tim” Prunty our “Brother-in-Arms”. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Tim. And to Tim it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the devoted and selfless service he rendered to his country during Operation Desert Storm while serving in the U.S. Navy and for his many years of law enforcement service in the ArkLaTex. Tim, we are deeply saddened by your supreme sacrifice while protecting our community. We bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed and always remembered among our ranks. Be at Ease. Rest in Peace.

On behalf of the 1,341 members of Lowe-McFarlane Post 14 of the American Legion, I extend our sympathies and our condolences to Tim’s family and loved ones.

Matt and family

I can't even imagine how hard this is for all of you, I'm holding on so tight to all the memories of conversations with Tim and the smiles he brought to my life. I will never forget. Tim touched many peoples lives and I was just one. My prayers are with all of you.
