SHREVEPORT, LA- Funeral services celebrating the life of Velma Hollis, 85, will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 21, 2012 at Rose-Neath's Southside Chapel. Officiating will be Mr. Darwin Hunter. Visitation with the family will be from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. Friday, January 20, 2012 at the funeral home.
Mrs. Hollis was born on January 6, 1927 in Weston, LA. She passed away on January 19, 2012. She was a resident of Shreveport and a member of Sunset Church of Christ, where she taught the third grade and the ladies Bible Classes for many years, as well as enjoying the fellowship of her church family. She was retired from South Central Bell as a supervisor and also a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Warner Hollis and her parents, Leila and Charles W. Tullos, Sr. She is survived by her daughters, Patricia Gamble and husband, Mike, Janet Atkins and husband, Allen; grandchildren, Tracy Matuz and husband, German, Bryan Gamble and wife, Darlene, Casey Toups and husband, Jonathan, Jessica Atkins and fiancé, Clayton Woody; great-grandchild, John Micheal Gamble; her twin sister, Vera Bunn and husband, A.T., also sisters, Betty Lanier, Mary Luker and husband, Fred, brother, Charles Tullos, Jr. and wife, Shirley; numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be David Lanier, Billy Luker, Wayne Luker, Donald Luker, Richard Johnson and Bryan Gamble. Honorary pallbearer is A.T. Bunn.
The family would like to thank Dr. Jeff Holt, Dr. Jason Nelson and the staff at the Promise Hospital for their care and compassion shown to our mother Velma and the family during her illness. Also a special thank you to Sharon Clanton for the kindness and services during the many years mother was her client.
