William Cheney Obituary
Rev. William Gerald Cheney, age 77, of Bossier City, Louisiana, passed away Wednesday, June 19, 2013. Rev. Cheney was born July 2, 1935, in Bradley, Arkansas, to William and Bernice Cheney. He was born again when he was twelve years old. At the age of fourteen, he ran out the door to go to Baptist Training Union, stopped and came back in to tell his mother, "You will be going to hear me preach some Sunday". After high school, he moved to Houston, Texas to get a job where he met his wife, Judy. They were married on December 31, 1954. In 1955, he surrendered to preach the gospel and entered Baptist Bible College in Springfield, Missouri.
Gerald and Judy dedicated their lives to the ministry. They left Springfield and followed the Lord's call which took them to Jacksonville Florida, Tampa Florida, Flint Michigan and finally home to Bradley Arkansas. Their selfless service to others and dedication to the Lord has been the greatest legacy two parents could ever leave their family. There is no doubt that when Gerald departed this life on June 19, 2013, "His Lord said unto him, well done thou good and faithful servant: enter thou into the joy of the Lord." John 25:21
Rev. Cheney was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife of fifty-eight and a half years, Judith Fisher Cheney; three sons, Marc Cheney and wife, Debbie of Winchester, VA, Steve Cheney and wife, Diane Cheney of Zanesville, OH, Jon Cheney and wife, Michelle of Bossier City, LA; daughter, Shelly Camp and husband, Randy of Stamps, AR; grandchildren, Jeremy and Laura Cheney, Josh and Christine Cheney, Lauren and Matt Mitchell, Mandy and Jeremy Hambrice, Jodi Cheney, Garrett and Andria Camp, and Savannah Cheney; great grandchildren, Connor Cheney, Graham Cheney, Paisley Hambrice, Caroline Cheney, and Myli Hambrice; brothers, Donald and wife, Melba of Texarkana, TX, and Jay Cheney and wife, Lorena of Bossier City, LA; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held at 10 am Saturday, June 22, 2013, at Bradley Baptist Church in Bradley, AR, with Bro. Tommy Patton officiating. Interment will follow at Walnut Hill Cemetery in Bradley under the direction of Smith Funeral Homes of Stamps, AR. Visitation will held from 5-7 pm Friday, June 21, 2013, at Bradley Baptist Church. Some of my sweetest memories are of my beloved Pastor, Rev. Cheney and his family. I have had other pastors since him, but he will always hold a very special place in my heart! Look forward to seeing him again when we bow in adoration to the King of Kings, our blessed Savior, Jesus!!!

Dear Judy, Marc, Steve, Jon, Shelly, and all the family of a great friend. Gerald's passing is a great loss to us. Not only was he my daughter's father-in-law; he became more like a brother to me. Our entire family dearly loved him AND he will not be forgotten. I only wish that I could have spent more time with him over the years, but I cherish those times we did share. May OUR Lord comfort you all in this time of parting. We love you and are praying for you. Hallelujah! He's home with Jesus. Amen!

Pastor Cheney was the first pastor that touched my heart with the gospel of Jesus. I was only 9 years old. I was saved under his ministry and will forever be thankful and grateful. That was at Grace Bible Baptist Church. I also was blessed by his ministry at Great Lakes Baptist Temple. My condolences go to the family during this time of loss and his time of homecoming! Pastor Cheney has a great legacy in the Flint area for the many years he was there. I was a teenager when he came to Grace Bible Baptist and surrendered my life to God to do whatever He wanted under Pastor Cheney's ministry. He led the church in a huge building project and relocation when it then became Great Lakes Baptist Temple. After Bible college, Marty and I were married by Pastor Cheney (almost 40 years ago!) and we returned to Great Lakes, where Pastor Cheney hired Marty to work as youth pastor/custodian. A big thank you goes out to Pastor, who invested in not only us, but so many people to mentor and love and serve the Lord. "Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints." (Psalm 116:15) Our fond memories and prayers are with you all!

I was so saddened to see that Rev. Cheney has passed away. I didn't know Rev. Cheney but knew Steve & Diane. We lived next door to them in Sherman, Texas and have alot of fond memories. Just wanted to let each and everyone in the family know that we are praying for each and everyone of you. When my son passed away in 1979 a friend told me Kelli there is know time in Heaven, Christopher is going to turn around and there you will be. That has stayed with me all of these years, and is very comforting to me. So just to let all of you know that he is going to turn around and there will y'all be. Thank God we will see our loved ones that have gone before us.

There are not words to express all that Uncle Gerald and Aunt Judy have meant in my life and that of our family...in short, they were always there for us no matter what. Though God led us to different parts of the country, we were never farther than a phone call or FB message away. My love and prayers for the family and my deepest joy at knowing that there is not a doubt but that my mom and dad met him at the Pearly Gates and they are having a grand reunion up there.
