Bossier City, LA - Services celebrating the life of William H. Turnage, age 82, will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, November 21, 2012, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Bossier City. Reverend Sig Kunz will officiate. Committal services will follow at Hill Crest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, prior to services.
A charter member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Bossier City, Mr. Turnage was born July 6, 1930 in High Point, N.C. to William Carl and Sophronia Lee Turnage. He passed away Sunday, November 18, 2012. He attended High Point public schools, High Point University and LSUS.
Mr. Turnage proudly served his country in the Air Force retiring in 1971 then from LA DOTD in 1992. A veteran of the Berlin Airlift and the Korean Conflict, he was awarded the Bronze Star for Meritorious Service in Vietnam.
He was preceded in death by parents and brothers, Thomas Lee Turnage and David Turnage.
Mr. Turnage is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Dorothy Turnage; children, Richard Turnage and wife, Jill; John Turnage and wife, Pat; William Turnage and wife, Therese; Jane Woods and husband, Jim and Amy Hanley; grandchildren, Ian Hanley, Mary Helen, Kelsey, Jack, Maggie and Caroline Turnage; Campbell, Julia and Laurel Woods, and Elizabeth and Hank Turnage; sister, Sylvia Hines and Nancy Hinson, all of High Point, NC.
He was a wonderful and generous husband, father, grandfather and brother who will be dearly missed by his family and friends. The family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Manish Dhawan and the staff of Regional Oncology for their kindness and excellent care.
Honoring Mr. Turnage as pallbearers will be Harold Mohrmann, Wayne Morgan, Charlie Johnson, Ken Russell, Bill Quinn, David Cotton and grandsons, Ian Hanley, Campbell Woods, Jack Turnage, and Hank Turnage.
The family requests that memorial gifts be made to the Immanuel Lutheran Church Building Fund.
