Ethel Lee Brown Smith

Shreveport, La - Ethel Lee Brown Smith passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, February 23, 2014 at the age of 98. She was raised in Sumter, SC. A graveside service will be held at Forest Park Cemetery on St. Vincent Ave. at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 26, 2014 with Rev. Gene Nix officiating. Ethel was an avid reader and loved working in her vegetable garden. She was a fiercely independent woman who had a wonderful witty sense of humor and loved her family dearly.

She graduated as a Registered Nurse and retired from the VA system after 40 years of service. She truly loved her occupation and the staff with whom she worked. Since 1953 she has been a member of Shreve City Baptist Church. She enjoyed her volunteer work which included working as a secretary; visiting the home bound and taking food to the sick and elderly.

Ethel was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond S. Smiths; one sister and six brothers all from Sumter, SC, her son, Raymond "Butch" Smith and grandson, Michael Smith. She is survived by her granddaughter, Melissa Smith of Birmingham, AL and her grandson, Brian Smith and wife, Darla of Broussard, LA., four great-grandchildren, Chloe, Hannah, Emery, and Cole; and daughter-in-law Linda Smith.

The family would like to express their appreciation to her sitters and a special thanks to Dwanna who all cared for her so dearly.
