Jean Looney Obituary
Jean Palmer Looney

SHREVEPORT, LA - Graveside services for Jean Palmer Looney (Mrs. William Edward Looney, Sr.) will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday March 8, 2014 at Greenwood Cemetery on Stoner Avenue with Father Thomas Elavunkal officiating.

Jean was born in Shreveport on October 21, 1918, daughter of William Moore Palmer and Clara Hilly Palmer, and passed away at home on March 6, 2014.

She was preceded in death by William E. Looney, Sr., her husband of forty-six years, her parents, and many sisters and brothers.

She is survived by her sons William E. (Bing) Looney, Jr. and John Francis Looney and wife Patricia; niece, Elizabeth Wheless Eglin; nephew, William Palmer Marshall; and several great nieces and nephews.

Jean was a native and life-long resident of Shreveport, except for a stay with her husband in San Diego, California during WWII.

She was a graduate of Byrd High School, Dodd College and Centenary College. She taught in the Caddo Parish School System for many years beginning in Vivian, La., and later at Alexander, Caddo Heights, and A.C. Steere. She also taught at St. Joseph's.

She and her family were founding members of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, and she took part in many church activities.

Her greatest concern in life besides her family and church was helping the poor. She and her husband were volunteers with Christian Services for ten years and later, after her husband's death, she continued at Hospitality House for many years.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made to Christian Services or charity of donor's choice.
