Joie Bounds Filkins

SHREVEPORT, LA - A Visitation for Joie Bounds Filkins will be held on Tuesday, May 27 from 5:30 to 7:30 pm at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Bossier City, LA on Airline Drive. A memorial service and burial will be held at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington D.C. on a later date to be announced.

Joie Bounds Filkins passed away after a lengthy illness. She was born and raised on the Eastern shore of Maryland. Joie was a military spouse and a public school educator for 31 years. She received a bachelor's degree from Black Hills State University, South Dakota and a master's degree from Bowie State College, Maryland. She taught in public and DOD schools in South Dakota, Guam, Louisiana, Maryland, Korea and Florida. Joie has been and is still an inspiration to the people she has met. She never met a stranger that she didn't share her love of life. "Joie De Vivre." She was a devoted wife and loving mother to her family and friends.

Joie is survived by her children: Joie Lola, husband Stephen and their children, Joie M. and Jesse; Marcus and wife Annamaria; Tierney, husband Thomas and their children, Justin and Timothy.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to WK Home Health, Hospice, and Dr. Robert Savory and staff.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
