Shreveport, LA - Meredith Anne Gregory Self "Mollye", age 70, passed away on Thursday, May 29, 2014 in Shreveport. Meredith, a resident of Louisiana since 1959, was born on January 9, 1944, in Tyler, Texas of Army parents, Gene Margaret and George Frederick Gregory, both deceased. She was also predeceased on June 17, 2010, by her youngest son, Jake Wendling.

Meredith experienced a wide range of employment during her working career, from her first jobs as a dental assistant, telephone operator, and in retail but always returning to the field of social services. She adopted her nickname of "Mollye" during the years of making cloth dolls which she called "Molly's Dollys". She also worked for the State of Louisiana Parks System and lastly as a Receptionist for The Cathedral of St. John Berchmans before retiring in 2007. She looked forward to season tax work with her daughter, Lori, in Hot Springs, Arkansas.

Mrs. Self was a volunteer for the Society of St. Vincent de Paul and The American Cancer Society. She did VOA tutoring for elementary students. A grateful friend of Bill W's since 2002. She was a self-taught mixed media artist and writer. She most recently found her joy in the creations of collage, altered art, jewelry making and journaling. She leaves behind many online art friends that became very close to her via blogging art forums.

Meredith was a catholic and a Funeral Mass for her will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, June 2, 2014, at The Cathedral of St. John Berchman, 939 Jordan Street, where she had been a parishioner. Officiating will be Msgr. J. Carson LaCaze. A graveside service will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Florien, LA. Visitation will be held from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 1st, at Osborn Funeral Home.

Surviving Mrs. Self is her adoring husband who was the light of her life, Michael Ray Self, of Shreveport, LA; children, Lori Gomez and husband, Marcus, of Keithville, LA, Shari Keller and husband, Wes, of Bossier City, LA, and Lance Wendling and wife, Jessica, of Grand Bay, AL; ten grandchildren; six great grandchildren; her brother, Fred Gregory and wife, Mary, of Benton, LA; and several nieces, nephews and many friends.

Pallbearers will be Lance Wendling, Joe Spence, Michael Gongre, Brian Self, Shane Rothermel and Gary Self. Honorary pallbearer will be Andy Walters.
