Susan "Susie" Sonnier
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at 10 a.m. and visitation on Monday, June 9, 2014 from 5-7 p.m. at Hillcrest Memorial Funeral Home in Haughton for Susan L. Sonnier, 59, of Haughton who passed away on June 4, 2014 at Promise Hospital in Bossier City, LA following an eight month illness.
Susan (Susie) was born on October 14, 1954 in Portland, Maine to Billy and Ailien (McThail) Shenefield. Following the sudden death of her mother, Susie and her family moved to Indiana where she lived for the remainder of her childhood. After high school graduation, Susie traveled with a cousin to Norfolk, VA where she met Keith Sonnier who would become her beloved husband.
Keith and Susie moved to Orange, TX for a short time and then Bossier City, LA where Keith was hired by and worked for Ditch Witch for the remainder of his life. Susie worked at various jobs including Louisiana Downs, Walker Brothers convenience store, and then a video store, which she later purchased.
Susie and Keith chose not to have children of their own but very much enjoyed their nieces, nephews and the children of friends. Magoo and Useless were their much loved pets. Susie and Keith enjoyed the PBR, shopping trips to Bonnie & Clyde Trade Days, Christmas trips to Natchitoches, and spending time with friends and family. Susie was a wonderful cook; and also enjoyed creating beautiful wreaths and flower arrangements. Her massive teapot collection was her pride and joy.
On July 14, 2002 Keith passed away and Susie's life would never be the same. She had lost the love of her life and best friend. Following his death, Susie transformed her video store into a tanning salon and later worked at Pilot until offered a job at Moore Wireline. She loved that job and was always thankful for the opportunities it provided.
In early October 2013, Susie suffered a serious illness from which she never completely recuperated. She is survived by her brothers Jan (Deb) and Billy Shenefield and her sister Gail Shenefield, all of Huntington, IN, her mother-in-law Jessie Sonnier of Orange, TX, brothers-in-law Curtis (Donna),Donnie (Terri), Clint and Richard Sonnier, as well as sister-in-law Tina Edgerton and a special aunt Delores Stephens, numerous nieces and nephews and a host of treasured friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother in law Raymond Sonnier and her beloved husband, Keith. We will miss you forever, dear Susie Q.
