Van Grigsby Johnston

SHREVEPORT, LA - Van Grigsby Johnston, age 64, died October 24, 2009 after a battle with cancer. Mrs. Johnston was born January 26, 1945 in Childress, Texas. She grew up in Shreveport, graduated from Byrd High School in 1963 and from Hollins College in 1967. In 1962 she won the Wideman Piano Competition. She and Bill Johnston married October 3, 1990. She was always active and played tennis until her illness made it impossible. She had an abiding faith in God that comforted her through many years of illness.

She is survived by her father Jack Grigsby; her husband Bill Johnston; sister-in-law, Bunny Langston, and mother-in-law, Muriel Johnston; her two children, daughter, Lane Greer and son, Dillon Wright, his wife, Tiffany Wright and their expectant son Dixon Wright; her siblings, sister, Vicky Johnson and brothers, John Paul and Morgan Grigsby; nephews, Chris and Webster Johnson. She was predeceased by her mother Jane Higgins Grigsby.

The family would like to thank Dr. Sylvia Nobel, Dr. Chad Hargon, Dr. Lane Rosen, and the chemotherapy nurses at Willis Knighton cancer center for the care and compassion they showed Mrs. Johnston during her illnesses. Funeral services for Van Johnston will be held Tuesday October 27 at 2:00 p.m. at Broadmoor United Methodist Church. The family will be receiving guests for visitation Monday October 26 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Osborn Funeral Home. The family requests that memorial donations be made to Broadmoor United Methodist Church.

Pallbearers will be Morgan Grigsby, John Paul Grigsby, Will Langston, Brooks Goldsmith, Chris Johnson, and Webster Johnson.
