1919 - 2010 Obituary Condolences
SHREVEPORT, LA - Jane Rogge, 90, passed away on Sunday, August 8, 2010, at her home. A memorial service will be held at Ellerbe Road United Methodist Church, Shreveport, Thursday, August 12, at 2 p.m. The family will receive in the church parlor prior thereto at 1 p.m. The Rev. Beth Tu'uta will officiate.
Born on October 15, 1919 at Fairview Farm in Gilliam, LA, Jane attended Belcher High School where she was class Valedictorian and beauty queen. Starting at age nineteen with KWKH, she soon became the primary bookkeeper/accountant at KWKH. During her 36 years there, she met and wrote out checks for most of the famous entertainers appearing on the Hayride, including Elvis and Hank Williams, Sr. Due to his gentle kindness, her favorite was Johnny Cash.
Jane cherished the love of her husband Don and her family, church, and friends. A avid golfer, she was a four time champion in each of four decades at East Ridge Country Club, where she was a charter member. She also had the distinction of being medalist at the state tournament and claimed a city championship. All her life, Jane especially loved animals. She adopted many throughout her life, and while growing up, it was said that all the dogs on the Plantation were Jane's. In her later years, Jane found an abandoned baby in a cart in her carport and through the years followed his progress with his adoptive family. She was an avid reader, enjoyed watching wild birds, and loved the outdoors (golfing and working in her yard).
Jane's life was centered in her faith of Jesus Christ. A member of Noel United Methodist Church for many years, then transferred her membership to Ellerbe Road United Methodist Church in 1983. She was active in churches, teaching Sunday school and keeping the books at Ellerbe Church.
Jane was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Don F. Rogge, her two sisters, Eunice Mae Sexton and Gertrude Rogge, and her niece, Gale Rogge Heath. Survivors are her nephew, Judge Fred Sexton, her niece, Jane Ann Rogge Jones and husband Jay B. Jones, a great nephew, Jay B. Jones, III, a great niece Kristi Jones Diaz and her husband, Troy Diaz. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Dorothy Jean Rogge, and nephews, Charles, Don, and Ron Rogge, all of St. Louis, MO.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Hospice Compassus, especially Tish Hunt and Kiesha Small. We also express thanks to Dr. Trung Duong, Dr. Sesha Sataluri, and Denise Crofton for their care and concern during Jane's life.
The family suggests memorial gifts be made to Ellerbe Road United Methodist Church, 10130 Ellerbe Church Rd., 71106; or the charity of one' choice.>
