Mr. Don Cawthon passed away from this life on March 22, 2011. He was born November 7, 1938 in Childress, Texas where he grew up. He graduated from Childress High School in 1957 and from West Texas State University. Mr. Cawthon taught school in Webster Parish at Lowe Jr. High and Phillips Jr. High from 1969 till 1974. He loved teaching and was "a favorite teacher" of many students. He retired from Madden Contracting in 1994 where he had been a state certified asphalt lab technician. He was one of the first men in North LA to be certified by the state and in turn tutored a number of other men in this area to help them become certified. In this work, he made many lasting friendships with both "State and Contractor" men. One of his dearest and most faithful of those friends was James Holoman who predeceased him.

Mr. Cawthon was preceded in death by his parents, Harold S. and Northa Flo Prator Cawthon, his in-laws, Richard H. and Sybil Martin Sullivan, his sister, Doris Cawthon Trent, brother-in-laws, Rick Sullivan and John K. Poland and nephew, Jacob Poland.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years Pamela Sullivan Cawthon, his son Donnie Cawthon, grandchildren, Kameron Cawthon, Kyndal Cawthon, Katie Cawthon and her fianc?, Clint Brittian, his grandchildren's mother, Angie Plunkett Cawthon, brother-in-laws, Donald Trent of Childress, TX, Mike Sullivan and his wife Cindy Cox Sullivan of Minden, sister-in-laws, Nyla Sullivan Poland of Dubach, Joyce Barnett Sullivan of Benton, nieces, Ginger Slingerland of Fort Worth, TX, Carol Trent Holcomb and Donna Trent Smith of Childress, TX, Hannah Sullivan of Shreveport, Rebekah Sullivan of Minden, nephews, Jimmy Don and wife Terri Slingerland of Leadville, CO, Paul and his wife Shanda Sullivan of Tulsa, OK, Jared Poland of Dubach, great nieces, Dr. Stephanie Sun and her husband Dr. Jack Sun of Fort Worth, TX, Haley and Chelsea Holcomb of Childress, TX, Emma Clair and Stella Catherine Poland of Dubach, Marissa and Makayla Sullivan of Tulsa, OK, great nephews, Cole and Michael Smith of Childress, TX, and William James Poland of Dubach, his "40 year friends" of Minden and a multitude of other friends whose lives he has blessed over the years.

Don was a unique person whose dry sense of humor, which he never lost regardless of his many trials, and his kind gentle and humble nature made a lasting impression on all who met him. Most of the people that knew him for any length of time had a "Don Story" they could tell. He was a fun playmate to his child and grandchildren when they were little and he was a dear and loving Poppie as they grew up. To his wife he was a comic adversary, a caring friend and a loving Christian husband till death parted them. To know him was to love him.

Honoring him, as pallbearers will be Larry Rhodes, Mike Powell, Claude Reeves, Billy Frank Ivy, Randy Dollar, and Trey Miller. Honorary pallbearers will be Bruce Beckman, Mike Hammett, Earl Koskie, Raynette Dollar and those who drove him for radiation therapy.
