Billie Rae Riley

Billie Rae Riley was born June 20, 1921 in Texarkana, Texas. She went to sleep and awoke to meet the Lord on the morning of Saturday, April 28, 2012 in San Angelo, Texas at Myrtlewood Estates Assisted Living where she resided for 11 months. She was 90 years, 10 months old at time of death. Her family wants to give special thanks to LeAnne, Michael, Lupe, Maggie, Hannah, and Lisa, along with all the other staff, who took such good care of her and loved her so much.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James A. Riley of Quincy, MA; her father, W.A. Jones; and her mother, Christina Jones of Shreveport, Louisiana, where she grew up.

Billie is survived by her sons, George William Harris and wife Brigitte, of Holiday Island, AR; Albert Dawson Harris and wife Leslie of San Angelo, TX, who both took such good care of her in her last year of life; daughter, Chris Yust and husband Charles, of Livingston, TX, who she lived with and cared for her for over 15 years; her special grandchildren, George Harris and wife Vickie, Terry Thrasher and husband Jim, Albert Anson Harris and wife Heather and Debbie Elliott; great grandchildren, Aaron Harris, Carter Avery Harris, and Brooke Thrasher and a host of extended family in Boston, MA including her sister-in-law, Mary V. Welch and many nieces and nephews; her loving dogs, Mandy, Pepper, and Max.

Billie was a resident of Livingston for over 30 years and an active member of St. Joseph's, The Pilot Club, and The Garden Club. She was a volunteer in various capacities in Livingston and touched many lives with her giving ways, smile and laughter. Billie always opened her heart and home to those in need, especially at Thanksgiving and Christmas. She was a proud member of the Escapees RV Club where she lived and had many friends. Earlier, she was an Escapees CARE participant and active volunteer there. She traveled and lived in many parts of the world. During the latter part of her life, she traveled extensively, by RV, around the United States and Canada visiting all 50 states with her daughter Chris and son-in-law Charles Yust. She made hundreds of friends throughout her 15 years of travel and especially loved her 3 trips to Alaska where she wished part of her ashes to be scattered. She called Alaska her "heaven on earth." The rest of her remains will be buried in Shreveport, LA next to her beloved husband and parents at Forest Park Cemetery.

A memorial service and celebration of her life will be held at The Escapees CARE Center, 155 Care Center Dr. in Livingston on Saturday, May 12, 2012, at 1:00 p.m. All that knew her are invited. In lieu of flowers, she requested donations to Escapees CARE in her memory.
