BOSSIER CITY, LA - A Mass of Christian Burial for Edna Gwendolyn "Gwen" Lewis will be at 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, August 21, 2012, at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Officiating will be Father James McLelland. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Monday, August 20, 2012 at Rose-Neath Marshall Street Chapel with a Vigil at 6:00 p.m.

Gwen was born October 20, 1923 in Ringgold, LA and passed away Thursday, August 16, 2012. She was a graduate of Ringgold High School, attended LSU-A, Northwestern State University, and received her degree in nursing from Mississippi State College of Women. Gwen was a devoted member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.

She retired from Overton Brooks Veterans Medical Center with over 32 years of faithful service. Gwen devoted her life to her profession, but family was her priority. Her kind and gentle spirit will be missed dearly.

Her parents, Jasper and Mattie Green Pate, daughter, Pamela Lewis, and sister, Mavis Pate, preceded Gwen in death. She is survived by her sons, Joseph Brady "Jay" Lewis and Stanley F. Lewis and his wife, Virginia; daughter, Esther Lewis McDuff; six grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; and great niece, Phyllis Liberto, who has been to see Gwen daily for the past month.

Honoring Gwen, as pallbearers will be her grandsons, family members, and close friends.

The family extends their sincere thanks to Glenview Gardens Retirement Community and Grace Home for the professional and loving care shown Gwen.

A special thanks to Brenda Boulware, "our Angel", for her dedication to Gwen and family.

Memorials may be made to Mavis Pate Northwestern Scholarship Fund in care of the the office of Alumni and Development, 535 University Parkway, Natchitoches, LA 71497.
