SHREVEPORT, LA - A Mass of Christian Burial for Janet Turgeon Lindsay will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 13, 2012, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 315 Marshall Street, Shreveport, LA. Officiating will be The Rev. Monsignor Earl V. Provenza, V.F. Interment will follow in Forest Park Cemetery, 3700 St. Vincent Avenue. The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Friday at Rose-Neath Marshall Street Funeral Home. A Rosary in the chapel will follow the visitation.
Janet passed away Tuesday, October 9, 2012, at Grace Home following a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer.
She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church and was active in numerous civic affairs.
Janet was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur John Turgeon and Ellen Bunyan Turgeon. She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Judge Charles R. Lindsay, and by their beloved daughter, Ellen Hope Lindsay of NY, NY sister, Roseann T. Anderson and her husband, Bruce C. Anderson of Pasadena, CA and by her nephew, Paul C. Anderson and his wife, Elizabeth of Pasadena, CA, and their children, Henry and Charlotte. She is also survived by her nephew, Douglas D. Anderson and his wife, Roslyn of South Bend, IN, and their children, Jack, Lucy, Sally, and Rex. She is also survived by her special and loving friend, Marie Brocato of Galveston, TX.
Janet was born in Little Rock, AR, but shortly thereafter the family moved to Shreveport. Janet was a graduate of St. Vincent's Academy in Shreveport and later graduated with honors from Webster University in St. Louis, MO. Janet was a wonderful example of graciousness, charm, dignity, and strength. She was a blessing in the lives of all who knew her. She radiated kindness, goodness, humor, and style. She was a beautiful, loving and caring person, and an ardent supporter of the arts. She was an accomplished actress in her own right, having starred in many productions in the Shreveport area.
She also volunteered her time, talents, and amazing fund raising abilities in support of Shreveport Little Theatre, Shreveport Opera, and River City Repertory Theatre. She was a life member of the Shreveport Opera Guild and served two terms as its President. She was also a life member of the Shreveport Little Theatre Guild and served two terms as its President. She was a member of the Shreveport Bar Association Auxiliary, and previously served as its President. At the time of her death, she was a member of the Board of Directors of Shreveport Opera, and was a member of the Krewe of Justinian.
Honoring Janet, as pallbearers will be Major General (Ret.) A.M. Stroud, Jr., Justice Jeffery P. Victory, Judge Fred C. Sexton, Jr., Judge Eugene W. Bryson, Jr., Mr. William T. Adams, Mr. Jack Carlisle, Mr. Theodore Casten, Mr. Merritt B. Chastain, Mr. William C. Dalton, Mr. O. Delton Harrison, Jr., Mr. J. Peyton Moore, and Mr. Mandel C. Selber, Jr.
Honorary pallbearers will be Mr. Chester Williams and the Board of Directors and staff of Shreveport Opera.
The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to Janet's many friends who provided their love and support to her during her illness. The members of the family also express their thanks to Dr. Seborn Woods and Dr. Destin Black of Shreveport, and Dr. Charles Levenback and Dr. Nicholas Papadopoulos of MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston for their compassionate and skillful care.
