James A. "Jim" Bolch

SHREVEPORT - Funeral services for James A. (Jim) Bolch will be held Saturday, October 27 at 11:00 at Mangum Memorial Methodist Church. Services will be conducted by Rev. John Higginbotham and Rev. Paul Carroll. A visitation period will precede the service at 10:00 am at the church. Mr. Bolch passed away at home on October 23 after a brief illness displaying his characteristic "never give up" attitude to the end. Mr. Bolch was a retired Personnel and Public Relations executive with Western Electric/AT&T, who leaves behind his cherished wife June Carter Bolch to whom he was married for the past 16 years.

Jim, the youngest of six children, was born on September 19, 1925 in Gastonia, North Carolina to Allie and John Bolch. Jim grew up in Gastonia where he developed a strong, positive spirit and determined work ethic. He joined the U.S. Navy at the age of 17 and served on a destroyer escort until he was selected for Officers School. He attended the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, N.C. earning both Bachelors and Masters degrees. There he joined Sigma Chi Fraternity and met Martha McClenaghan, a Shreveport native. They married and lived briefly in Chapel Hill and Danville, VA before moving to Shreveport, Louisiana to start a family. Jim's career experiences included working for Danville Textiles, Gulf Oil, the Western Company, the Chamber of Commerce in Ft. Worth, Texas and Shreveport and Western Electric Company/AT&T. He also served on the Caddo Parish Police Jury and chaired a successful United Way Campaign. Jim enjoyed being a member of the Shreveport Country Club, where he and June played golf and tennis and a member of East Ridge Country Club, where they enjoyed dining and visiting with friends and staff.

Finding true love in his later years, Jim married June Carter in 1996. He and June spent most of their time in and around their home on Cross Lake where they enjoyed feeding the birds, fishing and watching sunsets together. Jim looked forward to the times that he and June spent in the Florida-Alabama Gulf Coast area, where they played golf or sat on a deck looking at the ocean and listening to its waves.

Mr. Bolch is survived by his wife, June Carter Bolch, his son James R. Bolch, daughter-in-law, Bernice Dixon, daughter, Camilla Bolch, son-in-law Pat McCann, granddaughters, Jennifer and Kimberly Bolch, step children, Vicki Patterson, Cecil K. Carter, III, and Stephen B. Carter, step-grandchildren Jessica Anderson, Carlyn Carter, Cody Carter, Patrick Bentel, Katie Brazeal, step-great grandchildren Austin Weaver, and twins Lila Claire and Carter Andersen. The family wishes to express our sincere appreciation for the staff of St. Joseph Hospice, whose care, kindness, knowledge and skill provided incredible support for us and Jim throughout our last week with him.
