Mary Jo went Home to be with her Lord Jesus Christ at 3pm 11/13/2012 after a long bout with various health problems. Visitation will be from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Friday 11/16/12 at Hillcrest Memorial Funeral home, Bossier City, La. Interment will be at Hillcrest Cemetery at 2:00 PM 11/17/2012. Officiating will be Reverend Dianne Brown.
Mary Jo was a longtime member of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church where she previously served as an elder. She was also a longtime member of the Shreveport chapter of the Ninety Nines, a women's pilot organization. As an active pilot she held a commercial, instrument, and flight Instructor license as well as an FAA certified Airline Dispatcher and Ground Instructor all ratings. She received several aviation awards including the Zonta Club's Amelia Earhardt award. She also participated in the National Women's Powder Puff Derby. She was a member of Victory Chapter no. 130 Order of the Eastern Star here in Shreveport.
Mary Jo was preceded in death by two sons Earl Scott Voss and Benjamin Rex Voss, Mother, Mrs. Mary Broach Marine and father, Mr. Joe Lee Marine.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years Benjamin Voss, her daughter Candice Elaine Voss, son, Darryl Lee Voss and his wife Cindy Freshour Voss, a sister, Evelyn Worley, grandchildren: Jo Marie Strother McCarty, Jason Voss, Jeff Voss, Micah Strother, Nikki Adkison, Joey Voss, Julie Voss, and Matt Voss. Great Grandchildren: Jordan Brown, Cristina Brown, Tommy Johnson, Parker Powell, Hannah Claire Voss, Jaida Williams, Jack Strother, Jacob Voss, and Jeremy Voss.
Mary Jo was a devoted wife and mother who will be dearly missed by her family. The family would like to thank the wonderful medical staff at Willis-Knighton Health System, and Ms. Gale Smith for her special loving care of Mary Jo.
Pallbearers will be Johnny Moore, Soupy Ross, Russell Readheimer, Lee Gunter, Biff Worley, and Ben Land.
The family requests memorials may be made to St. Andrews Presbyterian Church or Providence House of Shreveport.
