Homer, LA: Funeral services will be held for George Clinton Garrett, 85, at Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church on Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. R.B. Moore and Dr. Pat Bates officiating. Interment will follow at the Homer Arlington Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 5-8 p.m.
Mr. Garrett was born Aug. 19, 1927 in Homer to John Clinton Garrett and Georgia Agusta Gray Garrett. He entered into rest Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2013 following a lengthy illness. Mr. Garrett was the former Chairman of the Board at Wesley Chapel, former Chairman of the ASCS committee and a member of the Gideon's - Claiborne Camp. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII, serving in the Medical Corp and a dairy farmer for 28 years.
Mr. Garrett was preceded in death by his parents; also 1 sister, Nelwyn Curtain and 4 brothers, John Dudley Garrett, Joe Wesley Garrett, Harold Garrett and William "Bill" Garrett.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Sadie Owens Garrett; two sons, Gil Garrett and wife Peggy and Tommy Garrett, all of Homer; 1 sister, Ann Stephens of Homer; sisters-in-law, Maxie Garrett of Haynesville and Ora Garrett of Ohio; 5 grandchildren, Clint Garrett and wife Brandi, Whitney Morgan, Haley Garrett, Hannah Young and Haden Garrett; 3 great-grandchildren, Josie and Jameson Garrett and Sawyer Wilson; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and many friends.
Pallbearers will be Ralph Thomas, Jerry Lewis, R.J. Easterling, Jim Keene, Ryan Harmon and Joe Heckel.
Honorary pallbearers will be Buddy Pixley, Dr. Cliff Salmon, Bro. Terry Willis and W.A. Spigner.
