San Francisco, CA - Robert James (Jim) Kellogg died at home in San Francisco on Sunday December 30, 2012 with his husband, Josh Whitehouse, by his side. He fought a long and courageous battle with a rare and aggressive cancer. He was 61.
He was born in Shreveport, Louisiana on December 9, 1951. He studied at Columbia School of Law in New York after graduating from LSU Baton Rouge. He went on to a distinguished career in New Orleans, LA. His law career was marked with many achievements and honors too numerous to list here. His legal legacy consists of championing various civil rights causes for the mentally handicapped, foster children, inmates in severely overpopulated state prisons, and various minority groups, as well as groundbreaking rulings on the rights of the HIV positive population and the gay community as a whole.
He is predeceased by his mother and father, Mary Ann G. Kellogg and Robert F. Kellogg. He is survived by his spouse Josh Whitehouse of San Francisco; brothers - David Kellogg and wife Gail, and John H. Kellogg and wife Debbie - all of Shreveport. Also, beloved niece and nephews Lisa Kellogg of Shreveport; John Alex Kellogg and wife Brittany of West Point, Miss; and Stephen Kellogg of New Orleans. He is also survived by many extended family members.
No services will be held here as it was Jim's wish that his ashes be interred in Hawaii.
His family invites all friends to visit Jim's Facebook page where his lengthy New Orleans obituary has been reproduced. We wish to encourage his friends to leave condolences to the family and to relate any special memories of him there.
