Richard Louis (Lou) Salmon

Waskon, TX - Richard Louis Salmon, age 82, died peacefully in the loving presence of family and friends on January 16, 2013 after a long and happy life. Lou was born in Seminole, OK on March 4, 1930 and educated at Longview High School, Tulane University and obtained his Bachelor of Laws degree from Southern Methodist University. Lou was a licensed attorney in the State of Texas for over 50 years, having received recognition from the State Bar of Texas for his service in 2007. Lou was also a licensed attorney in the State of Louisiana, working with Northwest Louisiana Legal Services as a pro bono attorney. Lou became certified as a Medical Technologist and was employed by Confederate Memorial Hospital (now LSU) in 1956 and retired in 1985. He also served as City Judge for the City of Waskom for several years and as Justice of the Peace "Precinct 2" Harrison County, Texas.

Lou was a member of the First United Methodist Chrch of Waskom having served as Sunday school teacher, Chairman of the Board and various other jobs.

He was preceded in death by his parents Bailey M. Salmon and Louise Brown Salmon.

Lou is survived by his beloved wife of 43 years, Joyce Dugger Salmon, daughter Linda Neal and husband David, daughter Tammy Jeffrey and husband Todd. Grandsons, Micah Neal, Ben Neal and wife Mandy, Timothy Neal and wife Mon, and Kyle Jeffrey. Granddaughters, Ashley Jeffrey and Lezlie Jeffrey. Three great grandsons, Landon, Liam, and Levin Neal. Brother Bailey Salmon and wife Nancy, Nephew Jimmy Salmon and wife Jo, Nephew Henry Salmon and wife Jo, and numerous cousins. His family was his greatest joy.

A special thanks to all the friends and family who have been so kind and thoughtful during Lou's illness. We love you. We also wish to thank Dr. Huan Le, Dr. Randy Brynn, Dr. Raymond Coughlin, Dr. Kirit Patel and all the nurses who took care of Lou at WK North, WK South, Lifecare, Nursecare, Promise Hospital, and The Grace Home.

A celebration of life memorial service will be at First United Methodist Church of Waskom, TX, led by Pastor Sherry Crenshaw, at 10 AM Saturday January 26, 2013, with visitation to follow.
