Homer - Mr. Richard C. Nixon, 80 years old of Homer, LA, formerly of Driskill Mountain, entered into eternal rest on January 27, 2013 after a long illness. Mr. Nixon was born on March 21, 1932 in Bryceland, LA. He was the son of Claude and Ethel Nixon. He was married to Nina Eugenia Driskill Nixon who preceded him in death and infant son Gary Michael Nixon. He is survived by three siblings, Birlen O. Nixon of Mt. Vernon, WA, Jerry D. Nixon (Barbara) of Anchorage, AK and sister Ethelean Sorg (Gary) of Biloxi, MS. Richard was the father of two children, Richard Anthony Nixon (Jennifer) of Arcadia, LA and Theresa Jean Mills (J. Darrell) of Bryceland, LA. He had four grandchildren, Tracie Rugg, Eric Mills, Erin Nixon and Cade Nixon. His great grandchildren are Allie and Ethan Rugg.

Throughout his life, Richard served twenty years in the U.S. Navy as a Chief Petty Officer. He retired in 1969 and went to work for the N.L. & W. Railroad for 23 years. He continued to serve as an active member of the Arcadia Church of Christ after his retirement. In December of 1996, he married Jo Ann Nixon; they have been together for 16 years. He was a good step-father to her children Valerie Meadows (Steve, Janet Holland (Roger) Tom Wynn (Casey) and Lane Wynn (Rachel). He was a grandfather to Shelby Wynn and Cole Meadows.

Richard was a friend to all and offered help to anyone who needed it. He was a NASCAR fan, race care driver and mechanic as well as an avid coon hunter. He also enjoyed traveling, reading and restoring old cars.

Visitation will be Tuesday, January 29, 2013 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Arcadia. The funeral service will be held at Rose-Neath Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday, January 30, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. Internment will follow at Bear Creek Cemetery, near Bryceland, LA. Bro. Steven Boyd and Bro. Charles Hamilton will officiate. The pallbearers will be the grandsons and the U.S. Navy Honor Guard. He will be missed but loved by all. Any memorials can be made the Arcadia Church of Christ, 2167 Cypress St, Arcadia, LA 71001.
