FRIERSON, LA- Funeral services for Danny Ross Huffstickler, 55, will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, February 15, 2013 at Calvary Baptist Church. Officiating will be Rev. Rick Edmonds. Interment will follow in Forest Park West Cemetery. Visitation will take place on Thursday, February 14, 2013 from 5:00-7:00 at Rose-Neath Southside Funeral Home.
Danny was born in Shreveport, LA on December 17, 1957 to Charles and Nita Huffstickler. He passed away in Shreveport on February 12, 2013. He was employed with Elynx Technology. Steve Jackson and the employees of Elynx cannot be thanked enough for all of the love and support over the past 4 years.
He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, camping and coaching baseball. He inspired many people young and old throughout his life. Danny played all sports growing up, but his love for baseball was greater than all others. He received many awards in high school and college; then went on to play for the Boston Red Sox organization. Upon arriving home, he began coaching as his children grew up. During this time in his life, he touched many children and families in which he instilled the qualities of a legend.
He was preceded in death by his father and grandmother, Beatrice Clode known as Nannie. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of almost 30 years, Christy; mother, Nita; son, Drew and wife, Meagan; daughter, Paige and fiancé, Brandon Kottenbrook; grandchildren, Paxton Huff Kottenbrook and Wyatt Ross Huffstickler; siblings, Terri Larocca and husband, Lance, Randy and wife, Dianne, Ronny, Donny and wife, Julie; numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Vic Martin, Joe Long, Mike Jean, Daryl Smiley, Mike Procell, Danny Singletary, Daly McGowan, Mark Weir, Steve Tingle, and Rick Pilgreen.
A special thanks to his lifelong friend and caretaker, Vic Martin and father-in-law, Bobby Hermes. Also, the doctors, nurses, and staff at Willis Knighton Pierremont, especially to Dr. Eric Smith, Dr. Himanshu Desai, and Justin Wolfe, RN for their compassion and care. The never ending love and support from all of his friends and family will forever be cherished.
In lieu of flowers the family request that memorials be made to the National Chapter of the ALS Association, 1275 K Street NW, Suite 1050, Washington, DC 20005.
