SHREVEPORT, LA.-Services celebrating the life of Vander L. "Butch" Conly Jr. will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, April 6, 2013 at Rose-Neath Funeral Home Marshall Street Chapel. Officiating will be Rev. Armador Santos. Interment will follow at Forest Park St. Vincent Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday, April 5, 2013 from 5 to 8pm at the funeral home.
Butch went to be with his Heavenly Father on Wednesday, April 3, 2013 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was 70 years old. There to greet him in Heaven were his mother and father, Nelwin Sledge Conly and Vander Conly and his grandson, Gary Ryan Smith. Left to cherish his precious memory is his loving wife of 24 years, Ann Springer Conly, sons, Chuck Conly and wife, Julie, Gary Smith and Wife, Theresa, Brad Smith and wife, Karen, grandchildren, Kyle Conly and wife, Kaitlynd, Kory Conly and fiancé, Dena, Jacob Conly, Lindsey Evans, Abbie Smith, Jon Austin Smith, Brandon Smith and wife, Presli, Kendall Smith and great-granddaughter, Brielle Conly, and sister, Kay Conly Offut and husband, Henry. Butch also had numerous nieces and nephews.
Butch was born on December 29, 1942 in Shreveport, LA. He served in the United States Marines, taught welding at Caddo Career Center and then went on to be a Training Coordinator at Shreveport Pipe Trades and was a member of Local 141 for 45 years. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather, brother and uncle. He was known to most everyone as "Pop". He will be missed by all who knew him.
Honoring Butch as pallbearers will be his grandsons and serving as honorary pallbearers will be his granddaughters.
Butch's family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Christopher Snead and his nurse Jennifer, the staff at Christus Cancer Center and the Chemo Unit, Kate Young, NP, Pharmacist, Gus and Christus Hospice for their loving care and compassion for him during his illness.
The family suggests that memorials may be made in Butch's honor to Christus Cancer Treatment Center, One St. Mary Place, Shreveport, LA. 71101.
