Keith Rabinowitz Obituary

Keith N. Rabinowitz

BOSSIER CITY, LA - A Graveside Service with military honors for Keith Norman Rabinowitz will be held at Hill Crest Memorial Park at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, May 31, 2013 with Rabbi Jana De Benedetti officiating. The family will be receiving friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 30, 2013 at Hill Crest Memorial Funeral Home. Keith was born February 25, 1933 and died May 24, 2013.

Retired Lt. Colonel Keith N. Rabinowitz, affectionately known to all as "Pokey," was a Vietnam veteran who held many titles including Director of Missile Maintenance at Barksdale A.F.B. He was a member of the Shreveport Lion's Club and spent 10 years helping others through the Eye Care program. Most recently, Keith loved to vacation in Orange Beach, Alabama with his family. He was an expert on "Gone with the Wind" and it earned him an interview in the paper.

Keith Rabinowitz was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Phoebe Rabinowitz and survived by his wife of 59 years Rita, daughter Cindy Rabinowitz, son Mike Rabinowitz and wife Floy, daughter Sharon Robert and husband David, and daughter Gail Rabinowitz, grandchildren Joshua Robert and wife Sommer, Joseph Robert, Ben Rabinowitz, Matt, and Amy Claire Rabinowitz.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to B'nai Zion 245 Southfield Road, Shreveport 71105, or the cause of your choice, to serve as a legacy to honor Keith's memory.

Cindy,
I never met your father, but I know that after getting to know you and work with you that he was a man of character, dignity, respect and honor. These traits he past on to you and he will live on thru you and the way you live your life. May God comfort, bless and hold your entire family in his arms as he welcomes your father shouting at the door, "Job Well Done!"

Cindy, Rita, and Sharon
We love you and are sending all the prayers and hugs that we can from long distance. We were so sorry to hear about the loss of your dad. We pray and hope that the memories and the joys you had with him here on Earth will help get you through all the sadness that comes with loosing someone so special. Nothing will make this easy but hopefully knowing how much you all are loved back here will make it easier.

Cindy, you have our deepest sympathy. Your father achieved many accomplishments during his lifetime. I am sure the one he was most proud of was the wonderful family he had with him in the hospital while he was so very ill. May you and your family find comfort in all of your memories. Love, Rick and Sharon.

The Final Salute

“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.

This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to Keith Norman Rabinowitz our “Brother-in-Arms”. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Keith. And to Keith it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the devoted and selfless service he rendered to his country during the Vietnam War while serving in the U.S. Air Force. Keith, we commend you for your honorable service. You are a true patriot, who served with honor and distinction. You upheld the finest qualities of an American patriot warrior: courage, commitment, generosity, sacrifice, love and devotion to family and country. We bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at Ease. Rest in Peace.

On behalf of the 1,261 military veteran Legionnaires of Lowe-McFarlane Post 14 of the American Legion and the 233 veterans of VFW Post 2238 in Shreveport, Louisiana, we extend our sympathies and our condolences to Keith's family and loved ones.
