SHREVEPORT, LA-Graveside services for Sam Burleson, 99, will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 12, 2013 at Burleson Duhon Cemetery in Lake Charles, LA. Officiating will be Rev. Doug Cain. Visitation with the family will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Thursday July 11, 2013 at Hixson and Sons Funeral Home in Lake Charles.

Sam was born on June 25, 1914 in Sulphur, LA and passed away on July 7, 2013 in Shreveport. He was a retired supervisor for the U.S Postal Service. He attended Centenary College and played on the football team. He loved planning family reunions and events. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Edolie Burleson and wife, Ruth Marie Burleson; siblings, Melanie Burleson Gibson Hornsby, Brenda Burleson Johansson, Angelique Marie Burleson; son-in-law, Henry Allen King. Left to cherish his memory is his son, Samuel Evans Burleson, Jr.; daughters, Sammie Jean Burleson King, Patricia Burleson Owens and husband, Bill; grandchildren, Shelly King, Henry Allen King, IV, Sam Burleson King, Samuel Barton Owens, William Michael Owens, James Martin Owens, Bobby Joe Johansson (deceased), Howard Michael Gibson, Stephanie Angelique Gibson (deceased) and Sam Evans Burleson, III and numerous great-grandchildren; sister, Jimmie Lambert; special friends, Margie Garcie, Donald and Sherry Ebarb, Neal and Renee Williams, Joey and Ashley Garcie.
