Walter Bruce, 89, of Shreveport, LA passed away Friday, September, 6, 2013 in Shreveport, LA. His ever present and devoted son-in-law was at his bedside as he peacefully made his entrance to heaven in his sleep.
Walter was born June 8, 1924 in Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania to a Polish family as Walter Wrobleski. He later changed his name to Walter Bruce. He never met a stranger and lived a full and productive life. He served as a paratrooper and SGT in World War II. He left a little known legacy of tireless effort in the 1950's working for civil rights, with the building of a hospital in Marshall, TX against great opposition. A salesman by nature he spent many years at Sears. He was an author of 3 books. After his retirement, he found his passion, metal detecting. He spent many years finding lost treasure and selling metal detectors. It was frequently said he could out walk and out dig his own children and grand-children up into his 80's. He and his wife devoted their time to running their home business, Bruce Treasure. On the weekends he could usually be found at a trade show selling metal detectors, showing old maps or his found treasures. He was also the owner of Bruce Subdivision on Cross Lake.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 62 years, Ruth P. Bruce. Two sons, Kenneth Bruce and Keith Bruce, both of Shreveport, LA. One daughter, Gloria Miller and husband Charles, of Logansport, LA. Grandchildren, Christy Holmes and husband, C.D., Stephanie Miller, Eric Miller and wife Denyse, Jason Miller, and Ashley Bruce. He also leaves behind multiple great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother.
The funeral will be Tuesday, September 10, 2013 at 11 am at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Shreveport, LA with Father Joseph Kalookalam officiating. Interment will follow in Centuries Memorial Cemetery in Shreveport, LA. Visitation will be Monday, September 9, 2013 at Rose-Neath Southside from 5-7 pm in Shreveport, LA.

A beloved husband, father, grand-father, great grand-father and friend. He put a spark into a room when he entered and he will be greatly missed.
