Gerald Orea Obituary
Gerald Lynn Orea

Shreveport, LA - Gerald Lynn Orea, 67, was born on May 17, 1946 to the union of Bennie A. Orea and Sybil Annona Maxie. He always said, "When the time comes, I'm going to the woods and have a fight with a bear." The Lord answered his request and the bear won, so to speak, September 1, 2013.

He had worked as a life insurance salesman, Cotton Belt railroad worker, Otis Elevator installer, ceramic and marble tile installer and finally the trade of his father and brother, a sign painter, before becoming disabled by COPD. Gerald had a love of music from a very early age and had the ability to play the piano by ear and enjoyed performing for audiences of all ages. He wrote songs, poems and poetry, enjoyed being outdoors, loved going to the Goodwill and was always doing something.

He was preceded in death by his parents and half-brother, Billy Gene Ridgway. Left to cherish his memory are his children, Gerald Wayne Orea of Memphis, TN and Nikki Lynn Orea Black and husband Donald; brother, David A. Orea and wife, Evon; sister, Virginia Orea Fletcher and husband, Stan; his only grandchild, Ashley Nicole Pepper of Longview, TX; several nieces and nephews and one special great niece, Kayla Fletcher.

A private memorial service and interment will be held at Vivian Cemetery, Vivian, LA. at a later date.
