SHREVEPORT, LA - Lois Ellen Fulford Venable passed away October 15, 2013 after a long illness. A Korean Era Veteran of the US Air Force, she made her final take-off at the War Veterans Home in Bossier City, LA.
A direct descendent of the founders of Florida, Lois was born in Daytona Beach on January 31, 1935. She graduated from Mainland High School in 1953 and promptly joined the Air Force. There she met the love of her life John H. Venable, who she married October 30, 1954 and to whom she remained faithful for her entire life.
She was preceded in death by her parents Walter Riley Fulford and Ovieda Futch Fulford, four brothers, two sisters, one infant daughter, and her best friend Margaret Mitchell.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years John H. Venable of Bossier City, LA; sister Henrietta "Tootsie" Grier of Lee, FL; son Dr. Riley Venable and wife Kathleen of Houston, TX; daughter Kelley Venable and husband Schyler Elliott of Bossier City, LA; stepson Gary Venable and wife Donna of Vinton, VA; grandchildren Ronnie Peterson (Bridget), Ryan Peterson (Heather), Christopher Venable, Amanda Paxton (Jarrod); and great grandchildren Nikkolette Paxton and Zachary Solan Peterson.
Per her wishes, her body has been donated to LSUHSC. There will be no memorial service until her husband passes, because she never liked doing anything without him.
