Thelma Mae Smith, 91, of Shreveport, passed away on the evening of October 1, 2013. She was born on October 16, 1922 to Thelma English and Wendel H. Winko.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Clyde James Smith, Jr., brothers, Robert W. Winko, Wendel Henry Winko II, Harold Quinn Winko, and George Cecil Winko, and sister5 Frances Kirkindoll.
She is survived by her son Clyde James Smith, III and wife Mary; grandchildren: Clyde James Smith IV and wife Olivia, Jeannie Acker, and Lydia and Benton Redman; great grandchildren: Cody Jameson Smith and Amber Acker; sister Mary Roberts; nieces Thelma Rae Ratcliff and husband H.B., Sandra Cascio, and Tammy Sellers and husband Ed.
Thelma was much loved by everyone who knew her and she always reached out to those who needed a helping hand. She was a great cook and enjoyed sharing with family and friends. She was a member of Cypress Springs Baptist Church at Sailes, LA. Thelma grew prize winning orchids and was a member of the Shreveport Orchid Society. She worked for many years for Dr. John C. Hardin, Sr. and Dr. John C. Hardin Jr. Thelma was an avid antique Collector.
Memorial services will be held on Monday, October 21, at 10:00am at Centuries Funeral Home, 8801 Mansfield Rd, Shreveport, LA with burial following in Centuries Memorial Park. Visitation will be on Sunday, October 20, 2013 from 5-7pm. Bro. Bill Hoffman will be officiating. Pallbearers will be Wendel Ratcliff, H.B. Ratcliff, Jim Smith III, Don Smith, Rudolph Smith, and Sidney Smith.
