Charles Edward Smith

Shreveport, LA - Mr. Charles Edward Smith, 86, passed away on Sunday, January 19, 2014. Visitation will be held from 12:00 until 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday January 21, 2014 at Osborn Funeral Home. Graveside services will follow at Forest Park Cemetery with Pastor Brian Opbroek officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Park Cemetery.

Mr. Smith was a native and lifelong resident of Shreveport. Charles was born January 18, 1928. He was the owner of Right Way Cleaners until his retirement. Charles graduated from C. E. Byrd High School and went on to become a proud Texas A & M Aggie where he was a member of the baseball team. One of his greatest joys was sponsoring his American Legion Right Way Cleaners baseball teams. He was also an avid golfer and became one of the first members of Meadowlake Golf Club. Charles served his country in the United States Navy during World War II as a radioman.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents, John Edward Smith and Eureka Wall Smith and his brother, John Sanford Smith.

He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Jessie Larey Smith; two daughters, Cynthia Smith Hawthorne and husband, Kenny and Terri Smith Poland and husband Robert; son, Scott Edward Smith and wife Shelly all of Shreveport; four stepchildren, Gary W. Larey and wife, Susan of Benton, LA, David Larey, Pam Larey of Shreveport and Peggy Dixon of South Carolina; fourteen grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; two sisters in law, Sue Vinson Smith of Shreveport and Muriel Luker of Tennessee; one special brother-in-law, Jack Larey and wife, June of Texarkana.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons and nephew.

The family requests that memorials be made to Grace Home, 1065 Margaret Place, Shreveport, LA 71101 and Backside Benevolent Fund at Louisiana Downs.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Grace Home for their care and compassion and to Dr.'s Gandhi and Chhabra for their long time care.
