I worked as a medical technologist for quite a few years when Dr. Stoer was a pathologist there at Schumpert Saint Mary Place. He was always a kind person, interested in others. He loved his work and his art. He will be fondly remembered by so many of those who knew him.

I have known, liked, and respected Dr. Stoer since 1966 when I was a student Medical Technologist at Schumpert. He never failed in my experience to be kind and considerate. I always admired his dedication to medicine and his passion for photography and art.

I've known Hank since I was a member of the UU church in the '80s, and I've seen him and Fran regularly at the local art events over the years. He always impressed me as a wise, kind, and gentle man, and he will be sorely missed by everyone who was lucky enough to know him. My sincere condolences to Fran and the rest of his family.

I had the great good fortune to spend many hours talking with Hank when he came up to the church to do various volunteer tasks, which he did faithfully for as long as he was able. When he wasn't helping fold the newsletter or prepare for the Silent Auction, he'd often come and take pictures on the nature trail that would later become beautiful paintings, and he'd always drop by to say hello. He was such an intelligent, funny, thoughtful and creative soul, and he will be greatly missed by all of us at All Souls.

I am Hayward's second cousin. My mother was Virginia Brown Drewett. I have fond memories of both Hayward and Alice during my childhood. Time and distance separates all of us from those we know and love. God's blessing on all of you.

The Final Salute
“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.
This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to Ulysses Haywood (Dr. Hank) Stoer, MD our “Brother-in-Arms”. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Dr. Hank. And to Dr. Hank it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the devoted and selfless service he rendered to his country during WW-II while serving as a Medical Doctor in the U.S. Army Medical Corps. Dr. Hank, we commend you for your honorable service. You are a true patriot, who served with honor and distinction. You upheld the finest qualities of an American patriot warrior: courage, commitment, generosity, sacrifice, love and devotion to family and country. You were a true friend. We bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at Ease. Rest in Peace.
On behalf of the 1,261 military veteran Legionnaires of Lowe-McFarlane Post 14 of the American Legion and the 233 veterans of VFW Post 2238 in Shreveport, Louisiana, we extend our sympathies and our condolences to Dr. Hank's family and loved ones.
