Eleanor Johnson Obituary

Eleanor Frazier Johnson

Eleanor Johnson, 81, passed away peacefully on December 10, 2014 of natural causes. She was a lifelong resident of Shreveport, Louisiana and a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church for 55 years. Eleanor lovingly served her church as a Eucharistic Minister, Lector, and a past member of the Parish Council.

Eleanor worked for many years as a secretary at St. John Berchmans Grade School and B'Nai Zion Congregation and will be remembered with fondness by all of the people she came in contact with and helped. She often commented on how much she enjoyed interacting with students, parents, and religious leaders within the Catholic and Jewish communities in which she served.

Eleanor anxiously awaited Sunday afternoons so that she could enjoy her favorite pastime which was BINGO. Fortunately, she was very lucky and was able to yell the word "BINGO" very often. This simple activity made her very happy and she was often called the "BINGO Queen."

She was preceded in death by her husband, Julius and son Gary. She is survived by her sister, Carolyn Stephenson, son Mark and wife Tricia, daughter Julie Byram and husband George, Mary Harris and husband Keith, and Claire Johnson. She has left a host of grandchildren that she loved dearly which include: Jeffrey and David Johnson, Robbie Harris and wife Heather, Trey Byram and wife Jennifer, Matthew Byram, Jordan Stamps, and Alex and Andrew Morris. Her most recent loves include great grandchildren, Abram and Andi Byram.

It was Eleanor's wish to donate her body to science. A memorial mass will be held at St. Joseph's Catholic Church on Monday, December 15th . Family will receive friends between 10:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. in the church sanctuary followed by a Mass at 11:00 a.m. Presiding over the Mass will be Father Karl Daigle and Father Thomas John.

Memorials can be made to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul through St. Joseph's Conference of St. Vincent de Paul, St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 211 Atlantic Avenue, Shreveport, LA 71105.

Julie and All Family Members, Please know that my heart is breaking to hear such sad news about Mrs. Eleanor. She was such a dear Lady and almost like a second Mom to me when I started helping her through Helping Hands when I was living in Shreveport. She and I really became very dear friends and I have certainly missed her since I moved away and back to Georgia to assist my elderly parents. Just know that my thoughts and prayers are with each of you during this sad time, as I feel like I got to know each of you in some small way through your Mother and I know that each of you will miss her daily. Just know that she is now at home with God. God bless each of you at this time.
