Virgil Tims Obituary

Virgil Lavirdie Tims

Virgil Lavirdie Tims, age 79, of Carmel, LA, went to be with the Lord surrounded by his family on October 21, 2016, after a long battle with cancer.

Virgil was born on September 11, 1937 in Coushatta, LA to Father James Robert Tims and Mother Ruby Potts.

Virgil was proceeded in death by his parents and brothers, Paul Tims and BW Fulghum.

Virgil is survived by his wife of 60 years Anginita Tims. 3 Sons, Bobby Tims and wife Becky of Stonewall, LA., Dewayne Tims & Bretta Joncas of Bossier City, LA, Scotty Tims and wife Brandi of Morringsport, LA.. And only daughter, Ramona Ewing & husband Donnie of Carmel, LA. .Sister Laura Jane Ainsworth of Pearl, MS. And brother JD Hickman. Virgil has 9 grand blessings and 6 great grand blessings, numerous nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.

Virgil was a Veteran of the USAF Special Services, he worked many years in Feed Mill Operations as a laborer then supervisor of Purina, SFA, Charles's Feed and Seed, and Keithville Co-op. As Deacon of Carmel BC his last few years centered around the needs of his church and sharing the goodness of Jesus with family and friends.

Virgil was not only a respected patriarch of his family but also his community. He always had the coffee pot on and was willing to help anyone who needed it. More times than not you could find him on the back porch talking to the Lord several times a day. His quick wit, keen sense of humor, and practical jokes kept everyone on their toes. Virgil loved his wife, children, and grandchildren more than life itself. He was not only a friend to the people in his community, but to every stray dog that stepped foot in his yard. He loved his dog's Freckles, Baby Girl and Stray and in turn they loved him. Oh and let's not forget his multitude of humming birds.

Anyone who knew Virgil knew he loved to garden. It was once said he could grow peas on an asphalt road and potatoes on a rock. And he never saw a flower he didn't love.

Services will be at Rose-Neath Chapel in Mansfield. Visitation on Monday October 24th 5-8 pm. Service celebrating his life Tuesday Oct. 25th at 2pm. Officiating will be Dr.Thumper Miller of FBC Mansfield.

In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to Christus Highland Cancer Center, Carmel BC, The Gideon's, or ASPCA.

The family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses and other care givers of Christus Highland Cancer Center, Hospice and hospital for all their care and encouragement as well as all the family and friends who kept prayers going, visits, cards and phone calls.

The Final Salute

Brothers in Arms, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged Hand Salutes as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.

This Hand Salute is the last that we shall render to Virgil Lavirdie Tims our Brother-in-Arms. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Virgil. And to Virgil it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the devoted and selfless service he rendered to his country while serving in the U.S. Air Force. Virgil, we commend you for your honorable service. You are a true patriot, who served with honor and distinction. You upheld the finest qualities of an American patriot warrior: courage, commitment, generosity, sacrifice, love and devotion to family and country. You were a true friend. We bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at Ease. Rest in Peace.
